Delivering to the potential of the levant in Spain with local varieties
Local varieties set out to consolidate the identity of vineyards of the Levante in Spain.
Accompanying the recent publication of the Robert Parker scores tasted in Spain by Luis Gutierrez (Central & Mediterranean Region of Spain), there is a hint of an aspiration that we share: to see in the vinifications of local varieties, a perfect opportunity for forging further the identity of the vineyard and wines of the Spanish Levante.
The results of the tasting reveal a certain optimism despite the global circumstances in the sector.
The excellent results achieved, makes us think that the focus on the vineyard in recent years by all producers in the area is perceived as a visible path that points to a very clear future.
The wines produced reflect this commitment to changing styles, the potential of Monastrell and Moscatel vinified with a different sensibility, and which is complemented by yields of historic vineyards of Giró with varied expressions, a reflection of the potential offered by the terroir of the Marina Alta.
A singularity in the vineyard for the Giró.
The importance of having Luis’s very experienced palate is finally resounding in his assessment of the styles and vintages of the Giró.
As an echo of winegrowers, who for years affirm a special origin of the Giró, anchored in its past of the region with its links to the commercial routes of yesteryear. We corroborate a common past, linked to Mallorca and Sardinia, where Giró can sometimes be mistakenly considered as a synonym to Garnacha tinta.
While Giró de Abargues is its first release, it is satisfying to seet it achieve the second highest score of the 6 wines tasted. We cannot but be be more satisfied with the evolution that the vintage as for all the wines in this 2021 edition of Spain Central and Mediterranean^ for the Robert Parker Wine Advocate. ^[Subscribers only]

«Giró de Abargues, represents no only the type of wines for the 21st Century, mouth friendly, shorter ageing periods, less interventionist, but the culmination of local varieties in lands where the trend had been towards international varieties. »
